About our 1977 Unimog 416 with a Hiab 650 Crane - SOLD

The following are answers to e-mail questions we have received that may be of interest to prospective buyers:

1. What is the exact vehicle model number?
Unimog 416.

2. How old is the vehicle? What is the first date of registration?
The vehicle is more than 25 years old and is therefore DOT and EPA exempt in the US, which makes it fairly easy to import and register. The first date of registration was 2 September 1977.

3. What is the general mechanical condition of the vehicle?
It is mechanically sound. It has 1400 hours on a rebuilt motor. The motor rebuild was done by a reputable German firm, Motoren Lutz. The transmission is very good. It has good synchronization. Disc brakes are also very good. All in all, it is a good working vehicle.

4. What is the condition of the vehicle interior?
The interior will be completely refurbished - shifter boots repaired and cleaned, seat bases painted, passenger seat reupholstered, door panels recovered, new door handle inserts, etc.

5. Does the vehicle have any rust?
The cab is essentially rust free. It is in good condition. There are some dents in the roof, which will be repaired. The bed will have all new bed sides. The wood will be replaced in the floor of the bed. Fenders and the underside are in good shape. We do not plan to paint the vehicle at this time.

6. What year is the crane? What condition is it in?
The crane is a 1986. It was well maintained. Upon visual inspection, you can see that the hoses are in good condition. The 650 lifts 900 kilos at 6.2 meters. Please see the Hiab chart on Page 1 of the photos. Manual extensions, which will give the crane additional height, can be purchased upon request.

7. Could the crane be removed while not in use, and the bed remounted or somehow reattached?
Yes, you can lower the four hydraulic stand posts and detach the crane frame from the Unimog frame. You would just drive the Unimog out from underneath. The bed actually quick detaches from the crane frame and could be reattached to the Unimog, but would require an extra spider frame.

8. Can the stabilization jacks be turned/moved for driving?
The stabilization jacks do not swivel, but they can be removed. It requires disconnecting the hydraulic lines.

9. Does the vehicle come with the winches I see in the photos?
No. The font winch has been removed. It needs to be rebuilt before we can sell it. The rear winch requires only basic refurbishment. The rear winch can be purchased with the vehicle for an additional price. It is an HPC U5 6-ton hydraulic winch with an auto cable feed and manual spragg.

10. Is the rear bed a tipper bed?
Yes. It is a tipper bed, but currently has no tipper cylinder installed. A cylinder can be purchased for an additional charge.

11. How many hydraulic lines does the vehicle have?
There are 4 hydraulic lines to the front, which could accommodate a snow plow. (Vehicle also has a Schmidt plate to support a plow.) There are two hydraulic lines to the rear, with a 3rd return line. Currently, they are routed to the rear winch. If the vehicle is purchased without the rear winch, but with a tipper cylinder, the hydraulic lines would be rerouted to the tipper bed. Or if the vehicle is purchased with both the rear winch and a tipper bed, additional hydraulic lines could be installed. The Hiab crane has its own hydraulics.

12. Can I get a clear title in the US when I buy a Unimog from you?
Yes. After the vehicle has been paid, we send to the buyer - via registered airmail - the original Vehicle Title, a Bill of Sale, a copy of the Sea Waybill, and an Operator's Manual in English. These three documents will be needed to import the vehicle.
